Every day America sends a billion dollars overseas for energy. This would be a bad idea if supplies were stable, but oil depletion and instability in the Persian Gulf means we're not wondering if we're going to have trouble, we're waiting to find out when.
Rather than sitting around hoping things turn out fine, we’ve formed a coalition of candidates to talk about how to take the steps necessary to make sure our future is safe and secure. We'll do that by fixing the biggest problems this country faces today – lack of self sufficiency in energy and the lack of good paying career paths.
Today I’ve come to Daily Kos to introduce you to EnergizeUS.
Jobs in domestic energy production, from solar plant operators to wind turbine technicians, are good paying local jobs. They can't ever be offshored and energy demand remains pretty stable even during economic downturns. These will be a 'bullet proof' foundation on which we can rebuild our economy.
The men and women who take these jobs will need energy systems to install – which makes ongoing work for manufacturing employees and a safe place for investors to put their money. Those employees will buy houses, cars, take vacations, and save for retirement. Everyone benefits, from the investor who backs a wind turbine manufacturing facility clear down to the college kid working in the diner across the street from that factory.
We need good policy to make this happen and for that we need politicians dedicated to serving the needs of people here, rather than multinational corporations. You can help us get this done by visiting our Facebook page and making a comment, coming to talk with @EnergizeUS on Twitter, or by visiting our ActBlue page and selecting one or more of our candidates to support financially.
We will be back often in the coming weeks to introduce each candidate individually and have a dialogue about what we can do now to solve our problems of now and the future: namely how can we fix our economy by creating American jobs to put Americans back to work and at the same time take care of our environment and lessen our dependence on foreign oil. We look forward to continuing the conversation and then going to DC and to our State Legislature to get the work done.
